Junior School


The junior school encompasses year 7 and 8 students at the college. Students are placed into form groups for each year level and work with this group for the majority of their classes. Each form group has a form group teacher who they meet with each morning prior to classes to provide them with pastoral care, roll marking and daily announcements.
JUNIOR SCHOOL CAMP
Junior School camp takes place at Torquay each February. Year 7’s attend a 3-day program from Monday – Wednesday and Year Junior School camp8’s from Wednesday – Friday. Students undertake a range of activities including surfing, ocean kayaking, swimming, initiative games, karate, mountain biking, dance, beach games, orienteering and night walks along the beach. One of the highlights of the year 8 camp is the Thursday night dance show. Thursday dance night!
Camp is a great opportunity for students to get to know their new form members and develop new friendships. Many of the activities require team work and assist with team bonding of theform groups. Year 10 and 11 students attend the camp as mentors for the junior students. Their guidance and leadership is an invaluable resource for the camps program.
OTHER JUNIOR SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Along with Junior School camp, students undertake a range of challenge activities. In term 2 students will complete a 50 kilometre Junior School bike ridebike ride along the Warburton Trail. In term 3 a multi-day hike is being planned for the students to take on the elements. These activities are designed to challenge the students and to improve theirJunior School student activities
skills in team work, goal setting and positive risk taking. The junior school social takes place in A2. Students decide on a theme for the social 2008’s theme is “Friday 13th”. Year 7 & 8 SRC and year 9 & 10 volunteers assist with the setting up the hall. A playstation console is set up in the corner for students to do some gaming in between dancing. Students are also able to attend a water ski day at the National Watersports Centre at Carrum Downs in term 4. The day is run by Young Life, a youth group that works with the college. Snow trip takes place each year at Mount Buller. This year’s trip is two days and involves students undertaking their choice of skiing or snowboarding lessons as well as free skiing on level specific runs. The trip is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn new skills and have great fun at the snow.
